Galleries

The newly refurbished galleries offer great opportunities for learning. Walk inside a Bronze Age hut, mint a medieval coin, walk into a Victorian privy, watch a video of farm life in the 1960s, smell the blacksmith’s forge – and of course see the Museum’s working waterwheel.


Facilities

The Museum can offer visits from 1 to 3 hours. Why not combine it with a visit to the town, Okehampton Castle or Finch Foundry?

¨ Spaces in the galleries for small groups to work with their teacher

¨ Tours of the Museum focussing on skills and stories

¨ Education room with space for talks (30 children with their teacher) and workshop activities (15 children with their teacher)

¨ Handling collections for guided group work - by prior arrangement

¨ Find out how and why a museum works in one of our Research and conservation workshops

¨ Online Teaching pack with our own scheme of work including activities for use in the classroom and the Museum.

Entry for school visits is only £1.00 per pupil, accompanying teachers and adults free.
